The speedometer was originally made by VDO in Brazil for a Beck Speedster using original the original tooling/dies from tge 60's. The speedometer has had several parts replaced with 1960's produced parts because the ones that were originally on this speedometer didn't look period correct. The parts that have been replaced are: 1. The black windows and chrome trim ring around the odometer and tripodometer assembly 5.
The clear front glass lens. The speedometer will fit in any Porsche 356 and any VW based kit car with a 100mm diameter hole in the dash. All of the swapped-in parts are reconditioned parts from a 1960's Porsche 912 speedometer and are identical to 1960's Porsche 356A/B/C parts.
The metal speedometer housing was replaced with a 100mm diameter housing from a 1960's Saab Sonnett speedometer so I could put a green indicator light where the tripodometer reset lever originally passed through the speedometer dial face in the original configuration of this speedometer. The chrome bezel is also from a 1960's Saab Sonnet speedometer, but it is identical to a 1960's Porsche 356 bezel.The tripodometer reset mechanism has been relocated to the rear of the housing from the original through-dial location. Everything has been tested after final assembly and confirmed to be in good working condition. The speedometer mechanism is brand new and unused, and all of the odometer gearing is of the correct metric type. The mechanism calibration was set to the stock Porsche 356 calibration ratio of stock wheels and tires rotating at 500 rpm equals 60 kilometers per hour indicated on the dial (W=0.50). The speedometer is complete with mounting hardware, light sockets and 12 Volt bulbs.
The original box and the OEM metal housing are included. This speedometer fits into a 100mm diameter hole. It will work in any Porsche 356 as well as any VW based kit car because the outer tire circumference and the thread pattern of the speedo cable end nut is the same on a Type 1 VW.
